I hope you made it to MQX East 2014 in Manchester, NH! The fun started Tuesday night with the Ice Cream Social - then the loads and loads of classes - the Awards Ceremony, oh and don't forget the quilt show -- oh and the banquet Friday night, and....

OK - enough yap - want to see some pictures? I thought so!

Oh, did I mention those pictures are of the back of their quilt?

Don't you just love those teeny tiny baby feathers? That area was about an inch high as I recall - ugh!

A well deserved Best of Show ribbon! Congratulations to Renae Haddadin and Karen Kay Buckley!

When I went back to the show on Sunday afternoon for some "white gloving" at the Empire QuiltFest 2014 quilt show - I found two more ribbons for Vendor Awards! I was shocked - they weren't on the quilt (My Celtic Solstice) when I was there Saturday. But no complaints! Here is a picture of the 6 ribbons I received! [Best Machine Quilting, two First Place, and a Third Place besides the Vendor Awards]. The ribbons are made of cloth - they look like flowers, and each has something with wings attached - butterflies, dragonfly, etc. - cute! The theme of the show was Things with Wings.

Empire Quilt Fest 2014 - this weekend...

Today I attended the Empire QuiltFest Quilt Show in Clifton Park NY. There were over 250 quilts on display, and the competition was tough! This quilt show is judged on the "elimination" method - meaning the judge compares quilts side by side and chooses which quilts get ribbons (vs. the "point" system where each quilt is judged against itself and whether or not it met its best potential). The elimination method means there is only one First Place quilt for each category judged - same for the Second, and Third Place ribbons - but there may be an "Honorable Mention" ribbon as well.

One of my customers, Bonnie Maclean, entered two quilts I quilted for her. She won Second Place and Honorable Mention. Here are some pictures...

This is my latest quilt. It measures 87" x 87" and is based on a 3" block - meaning those little orange and green squares measure 1.5"! The quilt pattern was Bonnie Hunter's Mystery Quilt for 2013. I modified the borders from what she had in her pattern, and added the wide blue border to offset some of that orange and yellow! Only to have it screaming at me for an orange binding - with scallops no less!

It won Third Place in the Large Pieced category.

More Whirligigs won First Place!

Hi! My name is Laurie Collins. I've been quilting for about 25 years - which means I must have started when I was four since I only admit to being 29! I'm a longarm quilter - trying to make the world prettier one quilt at a time!
