Happy Valentines Day!

Need a quick gift idea? How about new pillowcases? I made a set of pillowcases for my hubby - with Valentine fabric!

If you want to make a pillowcase - here are the instructions.

This was done with the "Burrito" method - so there are no raw edges. Cut: 27" piece of the main fabric WOF; 9" piece for the cuff WOF; and a 2" piece for the accent WOF. Align the fabrics and trim so they are all the same width. Press the cuff and accent fabric Right Side Out lengthwise. Open the cuff fabric and lay out right side up. Layer on the main fabric right side up, and then the folded accent fabric. Roll the main fabric up until it fits inside the pressed fold line of the cuff fabric. Pull the other edge of the cuff fabric up to enclose the other two fabrics (like a burrito!). Pin the edges together, and stitch the edges with a 1/4" seam allowance. After the edge is sewn, pull the fabric from inside the burrito - out until the main fabric is fully exposed. Lay the right sides of the main fabric together and sew the side and bottom seams - finishing edges. You can zigzag, or serge edges. I completed mine with a French seam - by putting the wrong sides together stitching the edge at 1/8" - turn inside out, and then stitch the edges again at 1/4". That's it! Quick and easy!

The Missoui Quilt Company has a nice video showing how to do this on You Tube if you prefer to see the actual steps rather than read how to instructions. Enjoy!

The Patchwork Company

Are you looking for a great quilt shop? Head down to The Patchwork Company in WIndham NY - it's worth the trip!

It was about an hour drive south of Albany - take I-87 South to exit 21, then follow Rte 23 West to Windham. We headed down searching for the WIndham Fabric "Addison" Collection - and had a very successful trip.

We had a nice visit with the proprietors - Fran and Murray. They told us about the flood down there a year ago - and how they had water come into the store. But no fabric got wet - they quickly moved all the fabric from lower shelves to a higher location as soon as they saw the water coming up thru the floor registers. Thankfully, they did not receive serious damage, and have an interesting story to tell.

We had a nice chat about the QUILT Inc Raffle Quilt - they didn't know that I had quilted it. Fran says not to bother buying tickets - she is going to win it!

When you head down to The Patchwork Company, be sure to tell them Laurie set you! Oh, and save some fabric for me!
