My Quilting Lady is Laurie R. Collins
Laurie has been making and enjoying quilts for 25 plus years. She started out as a hand quilter, and then moved into freehand and computerized longarm machine quilting. She has taken classes with many of the most well-known longarm machine quilters in the country including: Karen McTavish, Renae Haddadin, Linda V. Taylor, Deloa Jones, Jamie Wallen, Irena Bluhm, Pam Clarke, Linda McCuean, Sue Patten, Dusty Farrell, Debby Brown, Cathy Franks, Dawn Cavanaugh, Linda Thielfodt, Kim Brunner, Donita Reeve, Sharon Schamber, Ricky Tims and more.
Laurie has won more than 40 ribbons to date on her quilts entered in local quilt shows in the Capital District of New York State as well as National shows in Ohio, New Hampshire, and Rhode Island. Many of her customers have also won ribbons.
Laurie's ribbons include: Best of Show; First Place with Exceptional Merit, Best Machine Quilting, Overall Original, Judge's Choice, First Place, Second Place, Third place, Teacher Awards, and Vendor Awards. Some of her ribbons are shown in the photo above.
Laurie's quilt "Breaking Free" was also published in the September 2010 issue of "The Quilter" magazine.
Laurie's quilt "Hawaiian Dawn" was published in the "New Hampshire ToDo Magazine" April 2013 and in the "Machine Quilting Unlimited" magazine July/August 2014 issue.
She won a blue ribbon in April 2017 at MQX East on a customer quilt pieced by Marcia Dougherty - both the piecer and quilter were awarded ribbons!
After ten years of customer quilting, she has decided to take a much needed rest, and is no longer quilting for others.
Watch for where the quilting "bug" will take her in the future....
