Here are a few pictures.....
A group of us had a great time at the Somers, NY quilt show on May 3rd. We saw lots of nice quilts, took some good classes, and of course laughed our heads off with the hilarious Mark Lipinski. Here are a few pictures..... Recognize anyone from the audience? Laura also had a front row seat.

I hope you made it to MQX East 2014 in Manchester, NH! The fun started Tuesday night with the Ice Cream Social - then the loads and loads of classes - the Awards Ceremony, oh and don't forget the quilt show -- oh and the banquet Friday night, and.... OK - enough yap - want to see some pictures? I thought so! Here are some pictures of the Best of Show quilt by Renae Haddadin and Karen Kay Buckley. Oh, did I mention those pictures are of the back of their quilt? Here are some of the front! Don't you just love those teeny tiny baby feathers? That area was about an inch high as I recall - ugh! A well deserved Best of Show ribbon! Congratulations to Renae Haddadin and Karen Kay Buckley! When I went back to the show on Sunday afternoon for some "white gloving" at the Empire QuiltFest 2014 quilt show - I found two more ribbons for Vendor Awards! I was shocked - they weren't on the quilt (My Celtic Solstice) when I was there Saturday. But no complaints! Here is a picture of the 6 ribbons I received! [Best Machine Quilting, two First Place, and a Third Place besides the Vendor Awards]. The ribbons are made of cloth - they look like flowers, and each has something with wings attached - butterflies, dragonfly, etc. - cute! The theme of the show was Things with Wings. Today I attended the Empire QuiltFest Quilt Show in Clifton Park NY. There were over 250 quilts on display, and the competition was tough! This quilt show is judged on the "elimination" method - meaning the judge compares quilts side by side and chooses which quilts get ribbons (vs. the "point" system where each quilt is judged against itself and whether or not it met its best potential). The elimination method means there is only one First Place quilt for each category judged - same for the Second, and Third Place ribbons - but there may be an "Honorable Mention" ribbon as well. One of my customers, Bonnie Maclean, entered two quilts I quilted for her. She won Second Place and Honorable Mention. Here are some pictures... Bonnie's quilt won Second Place Bonnie's quilt won Honorable Mention. This is my latest quilt. It measures 87" x 87" and is based on a 3" block - meaning those little orange and green squares measure 1.5"! The quilt pattern was Bonnie Hunter's Mystery Quilt for 2013. I modified the borders from what she had in her pattern, and added the wide blue border to offset some of that orange and yellow! Only to have it screaming at me for an orange binding - with scallops no less! It won Third Place in the Large Pieced category. More Whirligigs won First Place! Feather and Swirl Wholecloth won First Place and Best Machine Quilting! Woohoo! OK - so I missed posting in March, but I've been busy - lots of pretty quilts flying through my studio. But don't YOU miss the Empire QuiltFest going on this weekend - here is the info: Shenendehowa High School East 970 Route 146 Clifton Park, NY 12065 Saturday 9am-4pm Sunday 10am-4pm Admission is $7 for one day; $10 for two days; under age 12 - just $3 There are over 250 gorgeous quilts to feast your eyes on. And if you look closely, you will see three of my quilts! And don't forget to vote for Viewers Choice while you are there. Be sure to check out all the goodies the vendors have for sale - and if you get hungry, refreshments are available. Hope to see you there! In case you haven't heard, I am now picking up quilts at Log Cabin Fabrics in Selkirk, NY the first Sunday each month. Which also means I am returning quilts while I am there. Today was the first scheduled returned quilts, and the customers were very happy with their quilts! Here is a picture of the quilt commissioned by the gals at Log Cabin to make, that I quilted and returned today. Not sure if you can tell from these photos, but it was a big quilt - measured 87" x 144" long so it would tuck under and over the pillows. Joanne and Peter sent me a wonderful "thank you" email that I have posted on the Customer Comments page. The quilt came out gorgeous - if I say so myself! I love the fabric they selected, and the quilting designs set it off just right! Doesn't it look great on their bed? Love it! Whew! A long time coming, but finally coming up for a breath of air!
Nearly caught up with the avalanche of quilts that came in with Christmas and January deadlines. This is the time of year when many will set goals for the new year and reflect on what they accomplished during the past year. I'm looking around at the lists of things I wanted to get done, never quite getting as much done as I had hoped, but ready to start anew in 2014. So what will 2014 bring for you? Do you have a list of quilts you want to make? I do - and goals to become more efficient and organized in the process! Do you follow Bonnie Hunter? I tell you, that girl can get you motivated to make quilts! I watch in wonder at how much she accomplishes in short order - and that's with all her traveling around the world. I think I need to learn some of her methods to work smarter - and make decisions quicker. If you haven't found her yet - check her out at www.Quiltville.com - she has lots of information on her website. I think I'm going to set up her Scrap User System and see if that helps me finish more quilts in 2014. Can't hurt - right? In case you haven't heard, I will be picking up quilts at Log Cabin Fabrics the first Sunday each month at 1pm starting January 5th, 2014! So, plan to visit me there - and let's finish those quilts in 2014! Happy New Year everyone! May you be blessed with excellent health, the best of friends and relationships, a sense of purpose and accomplishment, and good fortune to help yourself help others how ever you can for the rest of your days! Be kind to one another. Namaste! Hope your Christmas was extra special this year!
Short and sweet..... May we all be happy and thankful for the many blessings we have received.
